“Want to grab a beer?” Jett asks after I finish helping him assemble an elaborate entertainment center. Storm bailed on us yet again, claiming he was delivering supplies to a couple who live off the grid. But I know he was just itching for any excuse to be in the air. Now that he has his pilot’s license, that plane he bought will rarely be on the ground. We often joked during a tour overseas that it was a wonder Storm wasn’t born with wings.

“Nah, I think I’m good.” I glance at my phone, willing Charlotte’s name to flash on the screen. I haven’t seen her since I ate her out on her couch yesterday, and I’m itching for another round. But it has to be on her terms. Whether or not she realizes it yet, I’m in this for the long haul.

“This about that girl?” Jett asks.

“Woman,” I correct. “And her name is Charlotte. But you were so busy being infatuated with her friend on that hike that I don’t expect you to have remembered that.”

Jett just smirks in that way that suggests he’s reminiscing. Before I can pry, my phone buzzes.

Charlotte: Come over.

Brooks: When?

Charlotte: Five minutes ago.

Brooks: On my way.
